Henderson County Commission Chair Rebecca McCall and Hendersonville Mayor Barbara Volk have declared a state of emergency effective 8 a.m. Thursday due to weather-related impacts from Hurricane Helene. The state of emergency,which was also proclaimed at the request of the mayors of Fletcher, Laurel Park, Flat Rock and Mills River, will continue until emergency service officials advise otherwise.
Henderson County is opening an emergency shelter at the Athletics and Activities Center located at 708 South Grove Street, Hendersonville.
The shelter will open at 12:00pm on Thursday, September 26 and will remain open until it is safe for residents to return home.
CLOSINGS AND CANCELLATIONS:
Henderson County Public Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
Blue Ridge Community College day & night classes cancelled for Thursday and Friday
Interfaith Assistant Ministries is closed Thursday and Friday for all services and volunteers.
Laura E. Corn Mini-golf at Edwards Park closed Friday and Saturday.
All city events through Sunday including Art on Main and the Hendersonville Farmers Market.
Children & Family Resource Center Harvest Dinner scheduled for tonight has been cancelled
Council on Aging – Henderson Co. Meals on Wheels: CLOSED
Bill Moore Community Park will be closed thru the weekend. Park staff will assess damage on Monday, September 30th to determine when the Park will be able to re-open to the public. All shelter rentals and court reservations are canceled as well.
Mills River Park, Mills River Town Hall, and the Mills River
Library will be closed today, Sep 26.
Tonight’s scheduled Mills River Town Council meeting at 6:30 PM at Town Hall has been canceled.
The City of Hendersonville Government Offices will be closed on Thursday, September 26 at noon and closed on Friday, September 27. The office closure will not impact on the delivery of emergency services. No garbage, recycling or brush collection will occur on Friday for city residents.
The Hunger Walk scheduled for Saturday has been postponed until October 5th.
Apple Country Public Transit system will not run any service Friday. Services will resume as scheduled on Monday, September 30, 2024. Please call (828) 698-8571 with any questions.
